Monday, June 26 and Tuesday, June 27, 2017 have been declared as work-free days by the Federal Government to celebrate the end of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr. A statement issued on Thursday, June 22, 2017, by the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary (DOOPS), Dr Rufa’i Kawu Attahiru, urged all Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to use the occasion of the celebration for sober reflection and pray for peace, unity and progress of the nation in its march to nationhood. Bayern Munich have threatened to report Chelsea and Manchester United to FIFA over Robert Lewandowski. The 28-year-old is reportedly unhappy in Germany, despite scoring 30 times last season as they won the Bundesliga title. Chelsea have made an enquiry about the Polish striker, while Manchester United are believed to have contacted his agent. But Bayern have reacted angrily and insist the player will leave. “Robert Lewandowski has a contract with FC Bayern, which he recently extended to 2021,” a statement read. “Bayern are not thinking about any move for Lewandowski. There are no talks with other clubs, and there will not be. If other clubs negotiate with a player who still has a long-term contract, they risk punishment from FIFA. “The player’s agent also assured us that he did not hold talks with any other club.”

A university in Ondo State has been shut down after five fresh cases of Lassa Fever were confirmed on Wednesday. A report had emerged three weeks ago that a student of Achievers University, Owo, was infected with the disease and hospitalised at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo. This led to tension in Owo town – which has the higher cases leading to the closure of Achievers University – after it was learnt that 2 persons contracted the fever in Akoko South West council and three in Owo council areas of the state. Speaking on the development, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tunji Ibiyemi, while addressing pressmen at the campus, refuted allegations that there were multiple cases, insisting that the institution only recorded one case. He, however, noted that the victim, who must have contracted it from her residence off campus, had been treated at the FMC in Owo and should be discharged soon. We’ve Repaid 42% Of Our Loan – Etisalat

Etisalat has repaid 42 per cent of the debt owed Nigerian banks and is not owing the humongous $1.2 billion, as being reported in the media. The clarification was made by the troubled telecommunications company on Thursday (today). The company said in a statement by its Vice President, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, Ibrahim Dikko: “As at today, we can categorically state that the outstanding loan sum to the consortium(of banks) stands at $227m and N113bn, a total of about $574m if the naira portion is converted to US Dollars. This in essence means almost half of the original loan of $1.2bn, has been repaid. “Etisalat continued to service the loan up until February 2017, when discussions with the banks regarding the repayment restructuring commenced.” The company also denied it was under any investigation by the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
