Mohammed Bashir who is a suspected Boko Haram member who was arrested in Ondo state has confessed to killing two persons. THE National Examinations Council on Thursday released the June/July 2017 Senior Secondary Schools Examination results. The Council says out of the 1,051,472 who sat for the examinations, only 745,053 of the candidates got at least five credits including Mathematics and English Language. The Registrar of the Council, Prof. Charles Uwakwe, while announcing the results at the headquarters in Minna, Niger State, said a total number of 50,586 candidates (4.81 percent) were involved in examination malpractices, representing a 0.52 percent increment compared to 2016. Uwakwe said the comparative analysis of candidates’ performance in the examination for 2016 (69.74%) and 2017 (70.85%) shows that there is a 1.11 percent improvement in the general performance of candidates. According to him, out of the 1,055,988 candidates who registered for the examinations in Nigeria and other countries only 1,051,472 sat and only 745,053 (70.85 percent) got 5 credits and above including Mathematics and...

Akure —SIXTEEN persons have been docked before an Akure Chief Magistrate Court, in Ondo State over the murder of a United States of America, USA-based business man, Banji Adafi, who was killed in his Nigerian home. The suspects were arraigned before the court for armed robbery and murder. But a twist was introduced to the matter when the Police Prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso asked the Court to release five of the suspects for fresh investigation following new findings by them. The Prosecutor said sequel to the petition from the family of the victim, Banji Adafi , alleging foul play in his death they requested for further investigation and the Police would want the case to be reinvestigated. Dr Jones Taiwo, the Head of Clinical Services (HCS) of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja, said the late Aisha Jimoh, who died of Lassa fever, might have contracted the disease in Owo, Ondo State. The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has said that lecturers of the state-owned polytechnic, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, RUGIPO, went on strike without a formal notice to the state government. He also said the poor funding of the institution and other government agencies was due to the shortfalls in the allocation from the federation account. The governor spoke on Wednesday in Akure while receiving students of the polytechnic who held a peaceful protest at his office while seeking a quick resolution of the industrial dispute. Mr. Akeredolu said he had called the leadership of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, for a meeting with a view to resolving the problem. According to him, what comes from the federal government is not enough to pay workers salaries and subventions to government agencies and institutions. Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has cancelled mass promotion of primary and secondary school teachers in the state. He stated that henceforth, any teacher that was not qualified for promotion would not be promoted. The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, has released cut-off marks for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for candidates, who made FUNAAB their first choice institution, for the 2017/2018 Academic Session, following the recent policy meeting, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Education. The University operates a Dual Cut-Off Point System for its agricultural programmes, which is fixed at 180 marks, while courses in Engineering, Sciences and Veterinary Medicine programmes are pegged at 200 marks.
